How to Get Your Kids to Fall Asleep Faster

Mar 13, 2019

You just spent the last 45 minutes helping your son take a bath, brush his teeth, get his pajamas on, and read a bedtime story. You've done the whole dance of kiss and cuddle goodnight.

You head downstairs and get cozy on the sofa next to your husband and...

"Mom? I can't sleep."

Seriously?!?!

Tell me you've been there.

Two-thirds of parents report some kind of sleep-related challenge with their kids at least a few times each week, according to Parents Magazine. When kids don't get enough sleep, they can't focus, get hyperactive, don't learn as well and they crave sugar.

If you have a preschooler, he should be getting 11-13 hours of sleep. Kids age 5 - 12 years should be getting 10-11 hours and teenagers need 9-10 hours of sleep.

Not getting enough sleep happens to us ALL the freakin' time. But. We are taking action. My husband just found this cool tool that has been helping the entire family wind down for the Sandman.

The Casper Glow Light is a soft light that won't emit any blue light - the kind that interferes with sleep. It starts out bright and gradually fades and then goes out. You can flip it over to turn it on and flip it over again to turn it off. It's controlled by an app to set your dimming time between 15 and 45 minutes. It's portable, and when you pick it up and give it a little shake, it turns on a soft light so kids can see to get to the bathroom.

It also can wake you in the morning, going from off to on in 30 minutes, too! It's a great way to be in tune with the circadian rhythm of the sun.

It's definitely helped my husband and I and our daughter a ton. Our littlest loves it, too, but we are still working on our oldest son who is 9-years-old.

Creating an environment that is peaceful, dark and quiet is so important. Get blackout curtains and try a sleep to wake light! If you don't want to try Casper's light... which I recommend! - there are other options on Amazon.com and the OK to Wake light is another popular option for families with young kids.

What do you do to fall asleep?

Please note that I am not an affiliate for Casper, we really just bought 5 of them and love them! I looked it up and if you follow my link, it's a friend referral and I may get credit on Amazon.com. The links to Amazon are affiliate links, which means at no cost to you, I may get a small portion of the sale. Thank you for your support!
