5 Actions to Take When Starting A Business or Brand

Last week, I spent the weekend with one of my mentors, Chalene Johnson, at her Marketing Impact Live conference. I’m giving you the inside scoop on what I thought her biggest messages were for online business owners.

I found Chalene Johnson a few years ago from her podcast “Build Your Tribe.” She makes talking about business super fun and entertaining, so I kept listening and started to love her.

My husband and I went through her program on creating a life you love, and I remember her live event was the first time my husband and I had spent the night away from the kids since our third was born. It was heaven!

So fast forward, I’ve been following her for a while, and have been learning a ton about marketing from her. I had no idea at first that she created Piyo, Turbokick and sold her programs to Beachbody and is an infomercial queen.

Last weekend I headed up to Irvine, California and learned from her along with some amazing speakers. Here are my top takeaways:

1. Clarify your message. In order to stand out among all the social media noise, you must be crystal clear communicating that one thing you do best. Focus on the problem you help people solve just as much as the solution. Take time to create a brand personality. Different is better than better.

2. Focus on that one thing. Go deep not wide. Share stories of struggles that are personal. Have conversations and interact.

3. Don't do everything yourself. There's too much to do! Our job is not to do, it's to make sure things get done. Remove distractions. Delegate. Outsource. Hire experts to learn faster.

4. Build a solid foundation. Have the pieces in place to take your customers on a journey. Create things that people want that solve their problems: free offers, inexpensive offers, and larger offers and products to purchase. Have an email sequence in place to take them along the journey.

5. Be consistent. Show up often. Share that one message over and over. Create a rhythm so people expect you to be there as their go-to expert.
